...there was nothing. Then came Protectors.

Welcome to the official itch.io page of Protectors! Protectors is a simple strategy game where you take on the role of Mother Nature and plant trees which you then harvest. But there's a catch: humans are coming and they want to clear the land. As you plant and harvest trees, more and more humans will come and chop them down. In the end, you'll lose, but how long can you hold out and how many points can you get before that happens?

Protectors was originally made for the 2018 Melon Game Jam held in April 2018 in Jakarta. We had 72 hours (but around 52 effective hours) to make a game using MelonJS  and had to involve the theme which we got, which was "Tree". Protectors' gameplay mechanics are still the same core mechanics we made for the game jam. At the time, the game was titled "Arbor Defense".  Even the elevator pitch we had for the game still applies:

"Plant and grow trees on an empty field, creating a forest, and harvest the fruits as long as you can against the lumberjacks trying to cut down your trees."

However, it was never finished and we didn't win the game jam sadly. We decided instead to redevelop the game into something better, but this time we're using the Unity engine. It's been around 6 months into development and we have passed the alpha stage. Right now we're somewhere in between alpha and beta, trying to fix the bugs, implement the assets, add a feature or two, etc.

We had hoped to be able to show you something of Protectors itself, but there are bugs preventing us from being able to do that. But we promise the next time we post, we'll have something for you all to see! (Maybe even something to play!)
