16/11/2019 - Ads and Purchases Working


It took us weeks, but we finally did it: our ads and In-App Purchases work! (yay!)

At first and after a dozen attempts, our ads just simply didn't work. No matter what we did, they wouldn't show at the times when they were supposed to, or at all really. But last week, we successfully fixed it after 3-4 hours of non-stop working on it (which was probably not a good idea in hindsight because I was sick, but it worked so who knows). To be frank, we're not really sure what we did that exactly fixed it because we were trying out a couple of things. But we'll figure that out later. After all, players won't see the code, will they?

In-App Purchases were a more straightforward thing. However, it had its fair share of problems. Even though we updated the ID or price of the product, for some reason our game didn't receive those updates and kept giving us the old information or it didn't work at all (i.e. you couldn't buy anything). Fortunately, we found that the problem was a very very trivial problem that we are honestly questioning why we didn't find it in the first place. It was just a case of us not changing ALL of the fields that we were supposed to change. Glad that was fixed!

I know, this isn't the most exciting devlog again and I share your opinion. I wanted to show you more about our game, but our artist forgot to upload what he'd already finished so I can't show you anything yet. Stay tuned for next week's devlog where we hope to show you more!
